you amaze and inspire me…all the time.

I’m a thirty-something from Long Island, New York. I got the missions bug in me when I went on my first mission trip at 14. When I was 16, I was ruined forever by a two-month trip to Southern Africa. I went home with more than a tan and some wooden carvings. I knew I’d spend my life on this continent, with these beautiful people.
I moved to South Africa when I was 19. I didn’t know much, beyond the fact that God called me here. I’ve learned a lot over the past decade of living in Africa, but in many ways I still don’t know much. And I’m okay with that.
I’ve been married for 7 years to my South African husband, Niel. I love his accent and his gorgeous eyes; I admire his faith and unswerving courage; I respect him for the man of God he is.
Together we lead a ministry called Thrive Africa which focuses on training indigenous leaders to impact their communities for Christ. Most of my time and energy is focused on writing — curriculum, promotional material, lots o’ emails, and the ministry field blog.
I don’t have it all together, and I often still feel like I’m not ready or prepared to be doing what I’m doing. But that’s ok. I’m willing. And God is able. And that’s the perfect combination.
Feel free to email me…

hey
I think i found your blog through a Relevant article you wrote.
I was actually in maracaibo in ‘94 (was around 6), i lived here until ‘96 and then moved to FLA. Maracaibo is nice but if you ask anyone about it here, all they talk about is how hot it is.

lol most people call me “G” or “Gchy” for short. Haven’t revealed my real name yet because of safety regarding my extended family as well as trying to stay safe on the internet but hopefully one of these days will feel free to do so :) Have a good night!

Hi Alece
My sister suggested I look at your website as there is very little info on Harrismith on the net. I found it really interesting. I have just quite my job of 11 years and I am moving to Harrismith (a town where I know absolutely no one) to start a new job. I find it a great comfort to here that you don’t have it all together, as I often feel this way and second guess my decisions but you are right it is okay to feel this way and I am sure we are not the only ones. Thanks for your input on this website and keep doing what you are doing.
