A few weeks back, I joined Amy for one of her morning walks. I was overly proud of myself for tackling the three-mile-round-trip road to the main gate. And then… I haven’t walked with her since.
Ugh.
What’s hard for you to stay motivated to do?

To be nice and submissive to someone WHO is always belittling.

alternate post:
three: years
today marks three years of blogging. somehow @ngie knew and surprised me with a happy blogiversary comment on my very-first post. i had to laugh because her comment was only the second one there. two comments on post number one three years ago. i’m so glad there are more people in my blogging family now than there were then! and natalie, my faithful-from-the-start friend, thanks for sticking with me while the grit got its groove on…

Studying German. I have a tutor that comes once a week who brings her whip (just kidding) to keep me on my toes. It’s like exercise - I have to make myself do it, but once I do, I feel so much better - like language endorphins kicking in!!

cleaning. I go through spurts. I hate it. I wish I was anal and OCD about having things clean and organized ALL the time. *sigh*
Hey, I love you. ;-)

Anything.
At all.
I am so innately an anti-routine sort of person, that attempting to do anything at all with regularity just falls in one big splat like fresh horse manure. (How do you like that visual?) sigh. It’s hard not to beat myself up over it. Although I did realize (slash God showed me) just yesterday that when I was feeling down on myself for not regularly praying for my friends - that God might know that I’m not a routine sort of person and just might not be expecting that from me. Perhaps He wants me to just be available - spur of the moment - whenever He wants me to pray. That I can do. Now just to know when I’m hearing Him …

Congrats on your three year blogging anniversary.
The hardest thing for me to get motivated about now is exercising in the winter. During the summer I love take long walks in the fresh air at the beach and the park. When the cold winter wind is blowing I just want to stay inside.
I bought a tread mill but that was too boring. I do “mall walking” a few times a week, but I need the fresh air and sunshine to get me motivated.

Hands down it’s exercising and second would be being consistent with a variety in meal planning. I guess you have to plan to be consistent … right? Anyway, yep, it’s exercising! Keep up the good work. I find that I overwhelm myself mentally with the prospect of exercising. Baby steps … then it works!
Congrats on 3 years. Wow, you’ve made quite a long and awesome impact on others. Isn’t that just so cool! God has done alot of speaking through you during that time, I am sure. Because, I’ve been following you for about 8 months and He’s impacted me many times through your words and transparency. Imagine … God is so cool!

well, exercise is up here pretty consistently. so… anyone have any motivation-tips for us????

Well, I must say that I am a bit of a weirdo because I actually enjoy exercising.
BUT here are some ideas…
1. Go with friends; they make you have fun and keep you accountable.
2. Find a thing that you like to do and do it. (I am with ED, treadmills are B O R I N G.)
3. Hydrate before and after. Drinking water helps the experience to be more effective and pleasant.
4. Don’t starve yourself. A half a hour before you are going to go eat a healthy snack and then when you are done you can have another healthy snack. Food is a motivator for me.
5. Blog about it.
Ok, I know you are thinking of all the reasons why these wouldn’t work, so let me end with a phrase I say almost everyday to my kids:
Think of solutions, not problems.
:o)

I’ve found that things done in the presence of groups helps me to stay on track. Then if one day they are not there, I’ve already been in the habit.
Repetition forms a habit, of any kind. You habitually wake up and slip your feet into something that hides your feet from the world. haha.
Even if psychologists say it takes 21 days to form a habit, that doesn’t exactly help us in the motivation department, because when it’s six AM and we know we should get up and work out, or stop eating, or clean the house……. thinking, “just twenty more days and it’ll be a habit” doesn’t work I don’t think.
What is helpful to me is seeing past my own grumpyness over what I need to do right then and seeing the benefits of accomplishing said task instead.
Working out is annoying and tedious and extremely hard work for me now, ‘cus I’m not in top physical shape…haha- but I can consistently do it, knowing it’ll get a little easier each time I go, and I’ll be happier, more energized, etc…
So I guess for some, motivation can come from seeing in foresight, the benefits of such discipline.
