there’s no place like home
“Your house really shows your personality,” Kitty said the other day. “It’s the little things you have everywhere that make it your house. I love how it shows who you are.”
Suddenly I started seeing my house differently than just moments before. Want to see what I noticed? (Click on each picture to see a bigger photo and description.)
- hallway love
- refrigerated love
- hooked on phonics
- hippo collection
- the big easy
- don’t tell PETA
What gives your home personality?

it’s so true… your house is fantastic. So glad I’ve been able to camp out here this week… it automatically feels like home.
This is good. I was just thinking along these lines the other day as I sat in my apartment observing how it is decorated.
I love this post, friend. I love seeing your home.
I wanna come!
I’m not sure about my house. Hmmm….. ya know, this could be one of those posts where you ask everyone else to do the same thing. Housewarming via blogging. ;-) Hmmm….
love you
Kind of but not really on the sames lines as your cooking plaque is my favorite saying, “If you’d like a warm breakfast, you’re welcome to microwave your cereal.” It’s not my quote but I love it.
Roxx
I miss your house. You didn’t take a picture of Starbucks!
I loved the “don’t tell PETA” haha.
I am soooo glad you added the glass hippos, they are my FAVORITE thing in the house. I just fell in love with those guys :) I agree with Becca though…where’s Starbucks???
kitty — hearing you say it automatically feels like home made my heart double in size.
BM — yes yes yes! i want to see your house!! (including that ginormous laundry pile you were sitting on!)
roxx — ha ha! i love that quote!
spooner — did you see starbucks peeking in that one picture????
mo — really? the hippos were your favorite?! that made me laugh! i might have to do a special starbucks post…
yeah…I even went on the website for the company in Swazi that makes them to see if I could either drive over and buy some or order them. I dont know why I loved them so much. hehehe
i got mine in joburg… there’s a branch of the ngwenya glass company there.
do you like hippos specifically or just these ones? i love hippos for some odd reason…
I love hippo stuff in general, and the glass ones were so unique. I guess I just got so used to the wood ones in Bots all the time, so seeing something else was cool. (and beautiful)
i agree! my hippo collection stays the same size until i see something totally unique — because most hippo stuff in africa looks relatively the same.
i think i bought myself one glass hippo and the other two came as gifts. they are so great.
i still can’t believe you were here for so long, and lived in my house even, and i never even saw you! for shame.
I know….crazy! did u hear that yesterday was the last game in Yankee Stadium? They had a huge ceremony with all the living yankees coming back to their positions on the field and all. I saw it on TV…really awesome!
aaah! i didn’t know it was last night. i’ll have to try to catch some clips on espn or something… thanks for letting me know!
lol….i think the fingerprints on the walls, and marker spots that I’ve tried to erase are giving our home alot of personality right now. I know that’s probably not what you were getting at with this question, however, that is def. mine. :)
I love this! It’s all so you. In my home we have a bright red guest room with lots of white in it and our bedroom is a beautiful green with white, green is my color. And cons room is a great blue color. I love our rooms but they still need pictures on the walls and new carpet.
and the rest of our house is still in the proses of becoming what we want it to be. We moved in three years ago but are taking our time to get things done and decorated the way we want it.
rachel — i think your kiddos’ fingerprints add perfect personality to your home!
faith — ugh! your colors sound so great. i’m not very creative nor am i good at decorating; i just don’t have an eye for that sort of thing.
you don’t have an eye for decorating?!
what the heck do you call what we’re seeing in these pics?? ;-)
I was looking at them thinking “I am SO not that cool” LOL!
i love that i got to see some of these this weekend via the wonders of the internet!!!!
Every time I go to st. bigbucks, I’m always thinking of you!!!
brandy — most of my house happened by accident!
cathi — i know! i love that i got to give you the “virtual tour”! :-)
I just made a connection….
I have soap stone hippos from vic falls. They are one carving but are butt to butt. I love them as well. I just unpacked them last week :)
i have those same ones!
accident?
yeah. my house is rather mish-moshy, not very… decorated. more like… thrown together!
I wouldn’t mind cuddling up in that chair of yours. You can sit, too, cuz you’re tiny.
What makes my house my home? The music. There’s always music playing.
Good times.
the little boy in your header not only has a sweet-as-sugar smile, but check out those amazing eyelashes!
I love that we can make our houses into homes with details. Picking up little things here and there that scream to you that they belong in your home.
My latest purchase, although small, made me laugh so hard I had to buy it. A refirdgerator magnet that reads “I finished your laundry. It’s in the fireplace.” (i am neither fond of – or good at laundry. )
Cindy, what music?
I think I’m the only music lover in my house. These boys….sheesh. Although they do love Rascall Flatts. ha!!
cindy – i’d cuddle with you. and you know, there’s almost always music playing in my home, too. i love that!
fireplace sounds like a good place for laundry to me!
amy — i know! james is utterly adorable. and yeah, it’s all about the details. i LOVE your laundry magnet!!
brandy — i like me some rascal flatts. well, some of it…
brandy — you need a BIG fireplace!
HAHAHAHA!! YES I DO!
“What gives your home personality?”
The LUMP in the green recliner…..My Father in Law!
That is what gives my house pereonality…You didn’t say it had to be a good personality. LOL
BTW…Cindy does play some good music!
thanks for saying hi and the encouraging words you left. great pictures…
I saw your comment on Cindy’s blog about gardening. Just want to say I am a pastor’s wife and children’s ministry director. Ministry is hard and I have wanted to give up at times. I keep remembering there are 100,000 people in my city who dont’ know Jesus.
theresa — maybe i just have everybody loves raymond on the brain, but the mental image i got was totally of frank barone.
jen — thanks…
jennifer — thank you for that loving reminder…
i LOVE the tour you gave us! really…
Aw man. I love your home.
I LOVE your house! I know I know … this is only a piece … but I love it! Right up my alley. :D
mandy — i love that you got to have the real tour!
