patriotism

Have you seen the phenomenon that is Nestle Toll House ready-to-bake cookie dough bars? I’m sure you have. I live in Africa… so this was all news to me. Kitty bought a package of it yesterday. Last night, I offered to bake them.

“I’ll read the package and figure out how to do it.”

“You literally just break them apart,” Kitty explained with a smile, “stick them on a baking tray, and put them in the oven.”

“This…” I said as I sat up on the couch with a look of utter amazement on my face. “This is why I love America.”

Yum! You haven’t had those yet? Shame.

Or just eating them straight from the package…even better. Yum.

uhhh ohhh! don’t tell cathi about those cookies. she’ll eat them before their out of the bag from the grocery store. and, i have to say, they taste really great too!

True that, we are the friend of non-chefs everywhere. And many more opportunists who believe that cookie dough should never actually be cooked. ;)

It wasn’t our last furlough but the one before that they had just implemented self-service checkouts. I was totally freaking out that a trip to the grocery store now requires absolutely no direct human contact whatsoever.

The inst-o-matic cookies are great too. I have done that with my own cookie dough here by freezing it in a log shape wrapped in saran wrap. I haven’t tried pre-slicing yet. That could be interesting.

Yummy bliss… you baked em’ great ;)

i have to admit that i ate a big chunk of the raw dough. honestly, i prefer the dough to the finished product.

heavenly.

oh… and mark — yay! you joined us! thanks…

Oh sister, those are sent DI-rectly from Heaven above. I’m sure of it.

indeed!

NO DOUBT! HAHA!!

Okay, if you love those, you’ll love this… you need to go get some DIBS. In the freezer section. Bite sized ice cream pieces…DIBS. In all kinds of flavors. You can eat ice cream without a spoon, or cone, or bowl, or anything. They are amazing. And addicting. Be prepared. I’m just sayin’. ;-)

This made me laugh. Hehe.
I love you!

you baked them?????

aye-yi-yi!

Raw cookie dough!!! FTW - my daughter says.

I finished your Picasso Head, unfortuantely after you email you can’t see all the lines. I think you have to go to the gallery and look it up to see the original. Anyway, here it is, sort of –

Raw cookie dough is the BOMB..

I always buy an extra pkg for baker (me) nourishment :) seriously!!

The cooked ones are for the hubby

this post is mean!!!
I’m on Weight Watchers!!!!!! Let me tell you this! You don’t loose 15lbs by eating cookie dough, raw or cooked!!! I do however eat Edy’s Slow Churned Yogurt Blends Fudge Brownie!!! Dan swears it’s real ice cream and NOTHING gets past him!! You have to try it if you are looking for something lite-er.

I think they even have the ones that include the tray now so you just pop the whole thing in the oven and bam, you have cookies and no mess at all!! You call it patriotism, I call it….laziness! :) ha! Half the fun of baking cookies involves the relationship with it. I have some of the best memories with my grams and she taught me everything I know about baking! I am sure she’s rolling over in her grave about the pre-cut cookies! I can just hear her cursing in German! :) ha!

Seriously though….I love the dough too. I do prefer the real deal though…..with a big ol slab of crisco instead of butter. Dang….those are yummy!!!

Next time you’re at the store check out how many types of those cookies they have…..it’s unreal! Even brownies!!!

Hense…..this is why I always gain weight on furlough! :)

those are yummy.

you are cute.

I like the ones from costco — its a big tub of dough — for $6. You scoop out how many you want to make (or just a spoonful for a cookie dough treat!)

so, were they as good as homemade cookie dough?? And if they come in bars do they make square cookies?

Angie - freezing you own cookie dough… brilliant! I’ll have to give that a shot. Do you bake them from frozen or let them defrost?

Sarah - seriously?? they come with a tray? HAHA. I’m laughing out loud at that one!

ha. i have to admit: that. is. adorable. i forget you don’t live here, and couldn’t possibly have known about something little like that. and the fact that you take such amusement in it is, well, amusing!

i likes you.

My sister is like a production/quality control manager at the Nestle plant in Virginia. Every time I visit I get freebies to bring home. Some of ‘em actually make it all the way home.

classic

Um…I haven’t seen those throw-in-the-oven-ready-to-eat cookies that you’re talking about, Alece.

I guess I just kind of thought it was easier to buy the cookies that were ALREADY cooked.

I mean, what’s so cool about cooking ready-to-break-apart-and-cook cookies when you can just buy a package of cookies and start munching on your way out of the supermarket…?

That’s what I love about America.

Well, that and baseball!

Ric:

We SO did NOT need to know THAT!!!

kellycorder - there are a bunch of directions on-line for freezing cookie dough. I generally let it thaw in the fridge for a bit. Not too long though because it still needs to be firm so that you can cut right through the saran wrap to make nice round cookies. It really only works with batters not based in egg, like chocolate chip or peanut butter.

Ok- that last sentence was unclear - It works well for dough such as chocolate chip or peanut butter that are not based in egg.

brandy — dibs, eh? i’ll have to check them out. i’m not actually a big “sweets” eater… and don’t indulge in ice cream all that often. so… i may be a tough sell on the dibs.

becca — made you laugh, did i? good.

tam — i know, i know… but then i only ate one. cause really… they’re just better raw.

michelle — i’m not up on the lingo. what’s “FTW” mean? (and my picasso piece is incredible. you are quite the artist! thank you.)

heidi — “nourishment” — ha ha!

faith — sorry…

sarah — i burst out laughing when i read, “you call it patriotism, i call it laziness…” way to call it what it is, friend. and i’m trying very hard not to gain the poundage on this trip… i know exactly what you’re talking about. i may be losing this battle though…

danielle — oooh…. thanks! (and i’ve gotten those big tubs o’ dough before; i like them a lot. i ate it with a spoon… a bite a day. ha!)

kelly — yes! they were just as good. and no, surprisingly the cookies still came out round (perfectly round, in fact), but i’d been curious about the same thing.

joy — amusing, eh?! hee hee!

ric — now THAT is the hook-up to have!

mandy — woman of short comments these days… i miss you.

NE — to be honest, i’m not a fan of too many already-baked store-bought cookies. but i’m not a big fan of cookies in general… so i’m a bit of a cookie snob.

I like Pillsbury cookie dough that you can bring home and bake in the oven yourself. Fresh, warm, cookies, just out of the oven remind me of my grandmothers home made cookies. Yum, yum, yum.

i miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ed — my grandma never baked me cookies. (but she makes some awesome sauce and meatballs…) my mom never baked me anything. i’m the first baker of my family. so it’s baby-steps for me…

manders — i.miss.you.too. (and thanks for the longer comment!)

ummmm…you’re supposed to BAKE those?!?!?

[mark…too late, slice!!!!!!!)

supposed is the operative word.

^^ true.
last time my friend jesse and i needed girl time, i bought two rolls of cookie dough from the store, and we each ate [most] of one while watching Fight Club.
sooo good.

i haven’t watched “fight club” in ages. rough, but such a good movie. i should watch it again sometime.

i fear that is one of the reasons America is undergoing an obesity crisis - not enough patience to cook their own cookies… even when the dough comes ready made!

*sighhhh.*

we’ve gone too far in ‘convenience foods’ people!

They taste better before they’re cooked?? that’s just… welll.. wrong! ( of the cookies that is)

First rule of Fight Club - don’t eat cookies from the packet uncooked (before a fight - it’ll make you ’soft and flabby’)

<B

oh, no…it’s not wrong, I’m doing the cookies a service! How would YOU like to be torn apart from everything you know to be life, thrown on a cold baking tray, and then placed in 350 degrees to slowly cook to your imminent demise?
I, my dear, make this experience short and sweet: open, tear, devour!!! All done!

Alece, let me know which flavor of Dibs you become addicted to. Seriously. ;-) Heehee

LOVE!!! FOR THE LOVE!!!!! HAHA!! Eat a freaking clump of cookie dough already!!! ;-)

love — oh no… first rule of fight club is “stock up on cookie dough.” what version did you watch???

cathi — ha ha ha! i love it!

brandy — INDEED!
