flotsam and jetsam

The past two weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. I’ve missed being online, blogging, and responding to emails. (Sorry I’ve been AWOL!) Here’s a quick recap for you…

Between back-to-back meetings in Denver we managed to squeeze in a quick visit to Red Rocks.

We enjoyed some sunshine in California, and got to spend a day with one of our former interns.

We then headed to Seattle for a bit, where we spent an evening with Sydney & Co. and met Nadine. We arrived back in New York on Saturday night, and the very next day took the train downtown with my brother…

to eat at my favorite Italian restaurant…

and watch the Yankees sadly get beaten by the Mets. (Even though we lost miserably, I’m glad to have made it to a game during the final season at their stadium.)

And who can resist a baseball-game hot dog?

(Which of course isn’t helping me at all with my fat arse…)

Niel and I visited a kennel (I’m not really sure what to call it actually…) where we could see and pet a bunch of different breeds of puppies. The discussion continues… but we’re much, much closer!

In less than 24 hours, Niel will be on his way back to South Africa and I will be in Wisconsin. Pray for us!

I was really hooked on reading your post, Alece, until I saw that stupid cartoon @$$ again! (Just about) EVERYONE has a picture of that thing on their blog lately!

Ah, well. At least the Yankees lost. Again. Tonight.

Hey, did you get new glasses? I like em if they are new!

I love all the pics! Thanks for keeping us to thoroughly informed. I simple one word post BUSY! or PRAY! would’ve sufficed. :-) You are over the top girl.

I am going to start something new. You know the little initials for words that you love so much (wink). There is the ever popular FYI. So here is the new one I am starting and dedicating it to you. (May all who use it be true and honorable just as you are.)

FYP (for you praying)

Cool huh? :-)

Use the FYP people!

Love ya’!

Wow, you lead quite the jet set life :) Sounds like ALOT of fun. Do you get to go back to Africa soon? Have a blessed day! Debs

The pictures are adorable! And you and your brother look extremely alike. I hope you had the opportunity to rest in between all this activity; sounds like it has been really busy! When do you join Niel? Is Wisconsin where your family is? Have a blessed day hon :) XOX

just found an old pic of us with the romanos at splish splash water park…WOW!

Praying! And it looks like you guys really enjoyed that baseball game.

NE — i know, i know… i caved and posted that logo… sorry!

sarah — yep! new glasses for the new do! (and because my old prescription was almost 3 years old!)

@ngigi — you are great. thank you for the FYP! i love it!

debs — i’ll be in the states for a few more months, visiting some friends… including one who is having a baby soon! i’m so excited.

gch — niel may end up joining me back here in the USA in a few months. i need to get surgery to remove my tonsils (EEEK) and would rather do it here than in africa. my family is from/in new york, where i’ve been the past few days. i’m off to visit a friend in wisconsin and then a few other friends before coming back to NY for a few weeks and then possibly surgery…

joel — i wanna see that picture!!!!

natalie — we did enjoy the game. there was some crazy drama i’ll have to tell you about, but overall we had a lot of fun. love you!

I just BET you did not get to the other end of that Hot-Dog!
::wink::

Angie - why is it not PFY?? Are you Yiddish - or Yoda-ish?

FYP, I shall! :-)

<B

i thought that, too — yiddish or yoda-ish! ha ha ha! that’s awesome.

and dang straight, i only had one bite of that hot dog. no butts for me that night!

You are so beautiful Kitten… love all the pictures in this post of what you’ve been up to!!

Do share more about the breeds you’re considering :) I’m so curious!!

The fat arse banner totally made me laugh- and of course go check out that blog. Hysterical and motivating all at the same time. Honestly though friend- I’ve never seen you in a position where you needed to lose weight. Maybe in a few months you and I can be the ‘kitties in training’ and get our bodies healthier through some serious exercise (and HELLO… I’m gonna have some serious baby-weightage to lose… I’m ready for my body to be my own again!!!).

Love you… and yup, you’re on speed dial :)

Dear <B & alece,

My mom does an awesome Yoda impression, btw.

Why FYP?

1. playing off off the FYI.
2. it is pronounceable (PFY is not)
3. it can be conjugated (FYPed, FYPing… like the word google, ya know?)
4. to be different
5. because I wondered if anyone would notice the improper grammar and have the “audacity” to comment about it (you know I love you all dearly!) - just rockin’ the boat a bit, rufflin’ them feathers, shakin’ it up, all those thinking-outside-the-box colloquialisms :-)

Now I would like to take this opportunity to extend a heart-felt muchas gracias to lovewillbringustogether for using the term… correctly. You’re a doll!

Sincerely,
@ngigi

amers — yes yes! kitties in training sounds perfect. i’ll talk to you later!!!

gigigreat explanation! i love your FYP by the way! and i love you too!

so…why not cleveland? We have good dogs here. yup. we do.
We also have hot dogs and, according to Sports Illustrated, the best ball park in the US…I’m thinking you should drop by for a few…we could buy your converse [have I sunk to bribery now? Eh, I'm ok w/ that.]

Great post and pictures! Fun to see all (!) that’s happening. I see Neil is fully immersed in (and supportive of) his wife’s culture (Yankees!) complete with shirt, hot dog, pop, and catching a game! Go Niel!

And by the way, Ang, I loved that you had 5 points to back up using FYP instead of PFY. :) So thorough. ;)

Annie and Alece - you two are sweeties. xoxo

And speaking of culture… is it called a “pop” in New York, or are you more of the “soda” persuasion?

YAY FOR WISCONSIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

further speaking of culture - its COKE in the south.

me: “would you like a coke?”

them: “sure, whatcha got?”

me: “we have sprite - ginger ale - grape - dr pepper - and coke.”

them: “i’ll just have a coke!”

… see? it works well!!!

I vote you and Neil the most adorable blogging couple!!!

there.

done!

how fun! missed you.

DARN METS!

FYPing!!

Alece, great pictures. I am really looking forward to seeing what kind of dog you get, and how well it will get along with Starbucks.

Should I pray for you or the people of great state of Wisconsin? :)

I am surprised Niel can survive on his own without you. :)

Mandy, according to Wikipedia there are now 12 different flavors of coke sold world wide, including something called Coca Cola Blak, which is coffee flavored. Now that just ain’t right. :)

cath — i’m actually in cincinatti right now. layover, ya know? how far are you from here? i’ll take you up on that chuck-shopping trip!

anneth — oh yeah. niel’s totally an african-american now!

@ — it’s definitely soda in new york. none of this pop or coke business.

mandolin — why yay? because of the friend i’m gonna see? dang straight! my heart’s been saying YAY all day… in spite of my crazy travel day. THAT is a story for another time. suffice it to say, it has not been my day…

tamtam — thanks for that vote! i’m grinning even now…

yeller — miss you, too, friend. soon and very soon!

bean — EXACTLY! it was a pretty rough and rowdy game… fights breakin’ out all over the place. for a second there, i thought i was at a hockey game.

michelle — thanks for FYPing for me. i reeeeeallllly appreciate that!

ed — i’m curious how our future-dogaroo will get along with bucks as well. should be interesting! and niel manages really great on his own. he’s king of kitchen concoctions. he’s been known to mix all the random leftovers in our fridge into an omelette and call it yummy (doused in ketchup of course). i miss my hombre already - and it’s only been a few hours!

I love WI ! Lived near the Dells for 5 years. will be praying for you as your mission journey continues.

ILP — thank you for all your prayers. what are the dells?? (should i already know the answer to that?!)

yes yay.
no traveling for a bit.

yay for 9 days of non-travel. i can’t wait!

Alece, does Starbucks get jealous if he(?) doesn’t get enough attention? Has he picked up any “inappropriate” words or phrases?

Fill me in on what flotsam and jetsam mean???

April!!! *insert big, warm, california smile here*

Yay for all the wonderfuls. I am excited as you are sort of-not really slowing down on the why you are there whatevers…bla bla. But for reals, it sounds like you at least got some down time to relax and get some alone time with Niel. Woo hoo, even if you did have to share it with a hot dog. I am so convinced that they make them different there then they do here. Why is that? I also like the new glassed even if Sarah only liked them if they are new. You are simply fabulous dahling and I hope that the rest of your trip is wonderful too. woop woop.

There goes that grumpy robot again____________>

@ngie - de nada! :-) and thank you for the complete explanation.

Doll not am i! - Yoda confusing me with, you are. HmmMMMmm?

-<B (Yoda love)

lovewillbringustogether - :-)

I think it’s time to buy Niel a new shirt (referring to first photo, then later photos… oh dear. New shirts indeed!). And oh yeah, GO SOX!!!

ed — starbucks says some pretty funny stuff… and only mildly inappropriate at times (like “poophead!”) and he doesn’t necessarily get jealous but he lets you know he’s there and wants some love! it’ll be interesting to see how he responds to a puppy… whenever THAT day comes.

bran — flotsam and jetsam just refers to a mish-mosh of random stuff. this will link you over to an explanation: http://gritandglory.com/2007/09/02/flotsam-and-jetsam/

KA — hot dogs in africa are fairly nasty. have you seen the hot pink variety? oh gross!

christen — nah… niel needs MORE yankee paraphernalia actually!
