unbelievable

While we’re having a real conversation about serious stuff, I wanted to share three unbelievably note-worthy things:

  1. According to our contest, I just won the dog of my dreams! (You guys rock!)
  2. Because of the love and dedication of my faithful blog-friends, I received over 1,000 comments on one post! (I wish you could have seen how excited I was about this!)
  3. Niel ended up getting aebleskiver balls today. (Pretty gross…)

“aebleskiver balls”

wha??!!

I’ve tried reading that backwards.

removing vowels.

reading every other letter.

trying to decrypt it.

but i’ve got nothing.

maybe that’s best!

and YAY!!!! you got your doggy!!!!!!!

what do you THINK it means, tam?!?!

uummmm - is it wildlife delicacy???

tell me no.

please.

new to these parts, I am.
also confused on the balls issue, like tam.
I have no rhyming skills.
but it came out like a circus tent.

[yeah, the last one didn't work too well...reiterating the skills part, i guess].

nice to meet you, alece, and congrats on the poopy puppy!

Congrats! Take good care of that puppy!

Yeah, Alece! You take good care of that puppy!

(And, uh, if you need help with a name…NorEaster is a pretty good one…Hey, I did my part!)

So will you REALLY get your puppy???

and do tell more about Nigel….

Over 1,000!? Good night! That’s a lot of comments on one post!

OK, I had to look up the aebleskiver balls on google and, from what I found, they are like pancake balls and traditionally cooked with bits of apples or applesauce (this is usually omitted in modern cooking of them).

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I first read that other than it being spherical, but I guess that is not so bad. Of course, if you are referring to something totally different than the above, my opinion could change. ;-)

Amazing! I made a cameo appearance there at the end. I am proud to say that I was part of that accomplishment. I might suggest the name be “Blog Dog”.

I did notice that over there on Anti’s site towards the end of his very impressive collection of comments (being a newbie and all) that a dog has been purchased for him?!?!

In the small Nebraskan town that my parents used to live in, Ashland, every year for Father’s Day all the townsfolk would come together for a cook out. The endearing name that they placed on this celebration was “Testicle Festival” and the delicacy served was grilled Rocky Mountain Oysters.

So what are aebleskiver balls anyway?

Puppies!

UMMM I am TOTALLY lovin’ you naming the dog with a “blog” type name. Seriously. HA!!

Oh, this was way random and funny this morning….I turned on the tv to find cartoons for Aidan (b/c he woke up hecka early) and it was still on Discovery from last night…and low and behold what was on…. but the show WE were watching last night, and it was the scene with the bear claw on the tree…that I missed! And you were right…that was amazing! And freaky.

Congrats on the puppy!! YEAH!!!!

(psssst, Brandy has always been a popular name for a dog. I’m just sayin’)

Ok, well, I too looked up the aebleskiver balls on wikipedia and found the same that Jen found - sort of a cross between a pancake and a doughnut made with apples. Not sure what’s grossing you out … must be something not shown.

Congrats on the puppy!! Niel must have not only seen this coming, but planned it on purpose. Hmmm… Your guy loves you, Alece. :) But I still say you should have two. You’ve certainly got enough room. :)

@ngie! that’s so gross! a-typical for nebraska, even! i always thought that ashland and the surrounding area was a bit odd, though. :)

that is impressive. I was excited when i hit 100!

you are a cheeseball.

Congratulations!!!

It was fun helping you win!

hee hee!

we were in a restaurant. niel asked “what are you known for?” the waitress answered “aebleskiver balls” and without hesitation, and with no clue what that meant, he said, “i’ll take that”.

they were kind of like fatcook (for anyone who’s been in south africa…), basically just fried balls of dough. they were bland and blah and basically just… yuck. and THAT was what they were known for?? disappointing indeed.

roo - you are Alece’s friend in Nebraska; she mentioned that… fun! The closest I ever got the that festival was to drive by on my way to celebrate Father’s Day at my parents house with a proper BBQ. I had moved out by this time. They moved out there after living their whole lives in Omaha because they wanted a lake house. They only had the lake house for a few years until my dad got a job in Wichita. My mom says Wichita is so much odder than Nebraska.

What part are you in again?

Really? It was like fatcook? Interesting.

Hehe. Disappointing (and deceiving to boot) name to say the least… Ha.

Niel lost. you won. Whoa. What happens now?

i’m in easter NE… about 45 minutes north and slightly west of omaha.

and i looked up the aebleskiver balls online, and they def. sound a LOT better than what niel had. gross is right!

easter. ha. i mean eastern. oops.

Jen’s description sounds like what we call in the South, apple fritters…or deep fried biscuits…

Apple fritters are great, especially when dipped in powdered sugar. UMMMM!

they sound better than they actually are. take niel’s word for it.

and becca — yeah… that’s our dilemma. what happens now?!?! he told someone today that i just won a puppy in our blog contest, so… maybe?!?! who knows! it was a lot of fun regardless. i can’t believe niel got so into blogging. or rather, anti-blogging.

whatever.

okay so what is the puppy of your dreams????

We just put a deposit on ours today. :D He is so cute! :D

What is happening?

puppy of my dreams? a grey schanuzer. SO CUTE. they look like little grandpas.

what kind did you put a deposit on, bran?

The “aebleskiver balls” do not sound very inviting. It sounds like something they might serve at Hogwarts. :) I pretty much like anything cooked in fat, but I think I will pass on this dish, at least what they served it to Niel.

The wikipedia receipe (Danish) sounds a lot better:

“The batter for ableskiver usually includes wheat flour, which is mixed with milk or cream, eggs, fat (usually butter), sugar and a pinch of salt. Some recipes also include cardamom and lemon zest to improve taste, and a leavening agent, most often baking powder, but sometimes yeast, to aerate the batter.”

They are supposed to be dipped in a sweet sauce, jam or with powered sugar.

Schanuzers are cute, but real dogs are not supposed to be “cute”. I feel for Niel.

awww, c’mon ed! real dogs are totally supposed to be cute.

::sigh::

I changed my avatar in honor of cute puppies…she’s part schnauzer.

awww…. she’s too cute, michelle!

from daniel - i think you should name the dog “blog” in honor of how it came to be

nice, danielle.

this is my dog, blog. Come here blog dog…blog dog sees frog. Run frog run!

and then i can write a dr. seuss-style book and make majillions.

for the ministry of course.

sit, blog, sit. good dog.

Perfect!
I’d buy 10,000 copies just to get it on Oprah’s top reads list!

suh-weet.

I’m all alone in my house cracking up at you guys!

(have you seen the crazy comment dialogue on my “bonus points” post? THAT will make you laugh!)

i’m SO sad that i missed the 1,000 comments.

or an afternoon over tea?
;)
