hangin with the boys

We saw the Big Man when we were in Washington, DC.

It would be awesome if “Big Man” referred to the President or anyone actually alive, but really it’s just Niel’s endearing term for the Lincoln Memorial. That is my all-time favorite memorial in DC, and I think it’s just glorious all lit-up at night.

So at 10:00, after we spoke at an evening meeting, some friends took us downtown DC to see the Big Man. Awe-inspiring, to say the least.

And we took some fantastic pictures.

We also visited Albert Einstein, which was a first for both of us. I really liked the wrinkly old guy.

We ended the night at our friends’ local hang-out spot, just talking and lovin’ Jesus together.

Our dream family vacation is to visit DC. We’re hoping that will become a reality some day!

Cute pics girl!

i have to agree that lincoln’s memorial is incredible. you sorta can’t help but feel a sense of history and purpose when in those types of environments.

indeed!

cheeseball.

glad you’re having a good time. :)

watch it, yeller. or i’ll sic the anti-blogger on you!

Oh my goodness, you are too funny. That first shot and caption is still making me laugh. :D I’m glad you had fun in D.C. That’s my home area, so it kinda feels like you were visiting home. :)

Who’s the short feller up front? :-)

Is it Tam’s Husband with glasses?

Glad you had some fun and Jesus on your whirlwind tour!

I wish I was with you in DC. You could go back every year and always find something new and interesting to see. I could spend weeks just exploring the Smithsonian museums.

I spent six months, in 1964, stationed just outside DC in Fort Belvoir, Va. I was lucky enough to spend most of my weekends in Washington.

It has been about 10 years since I have spent any time in DC. It is so easy to get around town using the subway. Along with BART in San Francisco it is the best system in the US.

anneth — i forgot you were from maryland. get back there often? we spent 2 nights in north potomac, md at the end of our week…

bub — SHAME!!!

ed — oh wow… so interesting. yeah, i could spend ages there as well. so much to see. have you ever climbed all over einstein?

DC is a great place. Went there when I was 11 or 12. Unforgettable.

Did you see I figured out how to get my pic on the recent comments list? I don’t quite know why it doesn’t show on the actual comment yet…

way to go, gigi! and i have no clue why it’s not showing up on this end of things. hmph.

Fun!

ooohh, i’m scared

“There’s much to see in this fine city…” ahhh, the laughs!

I’ve still never made it to DC… shame…

I love DC…..actually love it more at night, so beautiful. When Kev was a flight instructor and before 9/11 you could fly over it at night and the Wash monument would be right off your wing. Yeah, you can’t help but be proud to be an American there can you? I’ve never seen Albert…..interesting.

Love Neil’s squint again!

Alece, I must admit I did not climb on the statue. If I remember correctly it is in a natural setting with trees around it, in beautiful little park.

The Einstein quote I love is “Joy and amazement of the beauty and grandeur of this world of which man can just form a faint notion.”

Very cool. Those are nights you will never forget.

yeller — be afraid. be very afraid.

amy — your comment made me burst out loud with laughter.

sarah — glad you noticed niel’s squint. it’s so strange that he just can’t keep his eyes open! what’s up with that?!

ed — yep. you remember it absolutely correctly. i had no idea he was there. i’m glad our friends showed us.

So taking pictures on statues is kind of a thing with you. Which reminds me, when I see you next, we need a retake of that PF Chang picture. Sheesh!

I’d love to have seen that.
Maybe someday. ;)

talia — yeah. what’s up with that?? and yes, we should retake a PF Chang picture! (i’m smiling at the thought of lettuce wraps.)

becca — you’d love it.

I went to DC on a whim 12 years ago. Not a bad place if you’re up and about during the day. But once the clock strikes 3am, it is a VERY different place. VERY different.

You ever The Lincoln Memorial at 3am? Or The Washington Monument? How about the AFL-CIO building?

And The White House at 4am? Whoa!!!

NE — what happens at 3? do tell.

That is fantastic!

you’re so short! but i still love you! :)

i’m glad you love me in all my shortness, mandy.

North Potomac is about 30 miles due west from where I lived (and where my Dad still lives). I don’t get back as often as I’d like. Tickets are SO expensive now ($400) - double what they used to be. I’ll be flying to Virginia in July to see my best friend’s new baby (SO excited about that). Otherwise, I think I usually get back about once a year. Used to be twice a year. sigh. Growing up. I’m sure once a year will phase out pretty soon as well. Life just gets more complicated the older you get, huh? I don’t like that part. Otherwise, growing up isn’t all that bad.

laugh.

all this “growing up”ness… sigh.

i turn 30 in a month. that’s more “growing up” than i want right now.
