ten years

Today I celebrate ten years of living in Africa.

And I’m not even in Africa. Hmph.

I don’t have anything profound to say (like I did last year). If you want to read something deep and meaningful, you’ll have to go back and read last year’s post. It all still applies.

Today all I’m thinking is that I can’t imagine any other life for myself—I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. And yet, in that, I sometimes secretly (though not so secretly anymore…) wish I could take a reprieve from it all. A break. A pause. A selah not just for my soul but for my life.

And then I feel guilty for even thinking such a thing, never mind saying it out loud.

This missionary has a long way to go…

you and i are on the same wavelength tonight, friend. i’m getting near to more-than-needing a selah.

First off…you’re hair looks great! Are you getting used to the new do and how to style it? I remember when I cut my hair short I would catch myself in the mirror and it would shock me….like I still imagined myself with long hair. :)

Second…I think I know exactly how you are feeling as I felt that 4 months ago when we where home. Take heart my dear sister….you deserve a rest. Our friends and family bring a rest and refreshing to our souls….drink it up and bottle it away for those times when you return and need it (I’ve already tapped into my supply. :)).

PS…how was the coffee and did you find some new pants? :)

:-) Yes, radiant! :-)

Congratulations on a decade of cross culture living! If I was there in flesh and blood I would give you a big hug, look you right in the eyes with a big smile and say, “You have done well. Keep up the good work!” And then I would ask you about that selah / sabbatical / sabbath / break thing you were talking about. Like make you get some stuff on paper - when, where, for how long, and with what specific purpose in mind. But, I am not there in flesh and blood. So I will pray for you and trust that you are being led by the Spirit. You are a wise woman so I know that you will make good decisions concerning this.

Oh - and we missionaries specialize in “long ways to go” not only metaphorically but actual miles and kilometers. It’s what we do.

Live it up friend!

wow…..

Happy Ten Year mark. amazing.

Alece - can you email me?? I have questions about an organization known as World Help (worldhelp.net). I misplaced your email address!!

Congratulations on the milestone! I like what @ngie had to say the best, so I’ll just cheer her on. :)

Rest. Reflect. Renew. Resolve.

Repeat.

Happy 10th!!

I think it’s important to take a SELAH.. It only represents that you want to DO MORE for the kingdom of God. Because God wants you refreshed and totally renewed each and every day.

still prayin.

Love ya!

Happy 10th, friend. So proud of you and proud to know you.

I know there’s probably nothing I could say to make you “feel” better so….I’m praying for you. Enjoy this time with Momma, Daddy and family (and NY and Starbucks). I love you.

thanks e’rybody…

Wow! 10 yrs…and I also wish u were here too :) Don’t worry, I will keep your place safe. Oh, Starbucks is cracking me up! I keep thinking I’m hearing a conversation between you and Niel, but then I realize its the bird. hehehe. Love you!
Mo

I am truely in awe of you and Niel. You have no clue how you have impacted lives..or any idea the number of lives forever changed because of your service and trust in the Lord. Happy 10th Birthday(ish)..Iloveyou.

*Mo, I totally know what you are sayin about starbucks, i was takin inventory of movies (haha) one day and he kept freakin me out*

A decade… wow friend, that’s huge!!

And… I don’t think you have a long way to go… I think you’re exactly in the journey where God would have you be… and I think you’re wise to express both the grit and glory of all that God has called you to. Sometimes it’s beautiful, sometimes it’s hard… sometimes it’s full of joy, sometimes it sucks… and you glorify Him through it all and through being real. I love you…

PS… love the new photo of you in the sidebar. Your trim looks great :)

I’d like to say Amy (Kitty)’s comment encapsulates what I had wanted to say. Thanks. ;)

I love you.

Happy 10th! I hope you do rest at some point on this trip…don’t worry…we will do more than hold down the fort…we will grow in love, joy, and fellowship as we work towards all that God has laid out for Thrive to do (via you and Niel).

We miss you already (as evidenced today in Staff meeting), but we are praying for you and believe that this is a time of growth and break through…

Congratulations on your 10 years of success. I hope the next ten will be even better.

In my company if a manager left for even a short break his team would be fighting over his chair.

From Charlene’s post I see your team is a little more loyal. :)

Mo - I’m glad Starbucks is making you laugh. I miss that crazy bird.

Ed - Yes, we have a great staff team. Indeed.

Thanks for the encouraging words, everyone!

congrats on the big 10! the traditional 10 year gift would be pottery. so since you have been in another country for 10 years i will do one better than pottery. i will give you the use of North America for your use and general merriment. you can have whatever you want. coffee, ninja monkies… its all free. just tell them “daniel said it was ok”

Is it Ten Years ALREADY???

Time sure flies by…

Personally i reckon that makes you overdue your Selah by about three years young Lady!

I NEVER do my best work when i’m Tired.

Just look at the mess i left in the Middle East!

Trying to hurry and finish things before Friday Sundown - should have known better!

ALL MY LOVE!!!

wow. between daniel’s comment and god’s remark, my day is off to a great start!

Congratulations!!!

I pray to God that one day I will be celebrating 10 years on the field in Africa!!!!

May God richly bless you in all He calls you to do!

thank you missionchik!
