four-minute friday: highlights

Go.

So today’s my big day. I’m up and at ‘em early (where did that phrase come from?) to drive to the big-city for my 11 AM hair appointment. I must confess: I’m nervous!

After my cut (and highlight!) I’m heading to the airport to pick Niel up. Hope he likes it. Especially cause it’ll probably never look that good again. There’s nothing like that fresh-from-the-salon look. Note to self: Make a point of asking them to show me exactly how to style it so I can do it myself.

Here comes the real bummer: We’re spending the night in Joburg to pick up some folks at the airport on Saturday morning. So… That means no “big reveal” until Saturday night or perhaps even Sunday. (GASP!)

Spiderweb: I can’t believe with or without you got so many comments. The dialogue took some interesting twists and turns. If you haven’t followed the comment conversation, you may want to go back and take a peek.

Okay… Since I’ll be gone all day, you’ll have to talk amongst yourselves in the comments. What do you anticipate being your high and low today? (That’s “kitty-code” for the best and worst part of your day.) And then come back and share what your actual high and low was… Okay. Discuss.

Done.

Can’t wait to see the new “do”!

hmm i haven’t commented in a while. i was without Internet there for a while but now im back and slowly catching up on my reading of the blog’idge here and there. i missed your writings. i miss you. i cant wait to see the new hair do!

oh and when i read the talk amongst yourselves i heard you say it in my head with your awesome Yankee accent.

;) ;) nudge nudge

you’re breaking my heart.

well, my LOW now is obviously coming to terms with the fact that it might be thenextmilennium before we get a picture report of your hot new do…..

high: hopefully i’ll be hanging out with some quality people (that live outside of the inter-world) tonite! YAY!

You are going to look fabulous! Good for you making the jump and just going for it! :-)

anticipated high = It is hard to pick one. Since this is fictitious I am going to go multiple choice here: a. coffee with my friends b. womens conference c. special time in prayer thanking the Lord for 23 years of eternal salvation.

anticipated low = yeah, this is a toss up too between housework and diaper duty.

We’ll get back to you later.

Praying for you with your special visitors.

High: Having my mom watch the girls for a bit

Low: Listening to Emma say “I want a paci” 3 million times

And we used to play “high and low” too. I imagine we will more once the girls are more conversational.

Can’t wait to see what it looks like! I hate that fresh out of the salon look!!!! Every time they put in “curl enhancing” CRAP and then defuse it with that big blow dryer thing!! I come out with REALLY curly hair that looks straight from the 80’s!!! I always come home and jump in the shower to wash it all out! Air dry works for me.

high: i’m thinking a trip to panera con mi madre for soup (that’s about all i can think about eating today)
low: my face STILL hurts. silly wisdom teeth. you’re not even there anymore! stop causing me pain!

Ahhhhhh… It’s late- and I’ve tracked down an internet connection because I’m desperate for the big reveal :) But alas… I must wait another day (or two) depending on what time I get in tomorrow… I hope you love it :)

love you…

Haha. Amy: You should try and click on your name. You accidentally typed in “wordress” apparently, instead of wordpress.

My high for today: the fact that it’s Friday and I determined I wouldn’t do homework until Saturday.

Low: mmm…. Getting hot chocolate that tasted like warm milk.

My low today was running out of broccoli for Sam.

My high today was the store still being open when I went out to get some!

High - a quiet evening alone
Low - confrontation with personal character flaws (yuck)

I know it’s Saturday, but I just made it over…

Low: A storm is brewing causing a massive headache.

High: My husband was home and we had a delicious date while all the teenagers were at school…mmmmm!

actual low: yep. my face hurt.
actual high: dinner date with my pa. :D

low - friends wont answer thier phones so i may spend saturday night doing laundry at home by myself.
high - alex is coming for two weeks on thursday!!

high - having pizza with danielle while emma was at her parents. (anna was with us but since she doesn’t yell yet i count this as a date)

low - emma screaming for a million years that she wanted to hold danielle (side note… she was on danielle’s lap during this meltdown.)

“up and at ‘em”
This traces it roots to the early part of the 19th century. most things that are worth having (material possessions, character traits, a nice soufflé) are born from adversity. so is the case with this cross-contextual phrase.
women’s suffrage was in full swing and chants where created to rally all those within ear shot. one of the lady suffragettes in charge of chant writing came up with this little diddie while doing her evening bible study in genesis chapter 3, and it goes as follows: (leader) upon whose head is the blame for the world we live (response) upon adam.
unfortunately she did not realize that because of the terrible lisp she had (due to using a pacifier until she was 15 years old) people thought their response was to be ‘up and at ‘em. among other things this confused many people because the call and response just made no sense. but what was birthed out of confusion (and an embarrassing speech impediment) was one of the worlds most known rallying cries… ‘up and at ‘em.

im really eager to see your new do… mer.

errr.. D H??

womans suffrage in full swing in early 1800’s?? (the 19th Cent!)

How certain are you about that?? :-)

that story would not be a teeny-tad ‘apocryphal’ - now would it?

Good read al the same!

love <B

The movement’s origins are usually traced to the United States in the 1820s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women’s_suffrage

apocryphal, you say? of doubtful authenticity you question? to be certain, we were not there in the 19th century…so there is a tad bit of doubt, yes. :)

you’re killin’ us here…. we want pictures!

hollar yeller.

Danielle’s Hubby: Brilliant! You must start your own blog! You could write amusing histories on strange sayings and customs of which the ACTUAL histories have been forgotten.

I like this “high” and “low” of the day, but I have nothing to contribute today. This might be a fun discussion topic to have every once in awhile.

it’s monday there. i’m waiting, ‘lece. :\

hrm… thought I’d comment, too, even if it is late Sunday here where I am. :)

high for today - got lots of sleep

low for today (and the past several) - allergy and sinus problems… strangely enough, this is what helped cause the high for today…

Post a pic of the “do” or else.

i have no idea.

i just really, really, wanta see it

:D

Tam gets MEAN when she’s sick - don’t say yer weren’t warned! :-)

High (24 hrs) Seeing Dolphins just off my local beach at sunset! :-)

Low - waking to a rainy day (first for weeks) and having my internet connection drop out about 20 times because of our wet power poles/telegraph lines.

love <B

commencing blog protest NOW:

WE WANT PICS!!!! WE WANT PICS!!!!! WE WANT PICS!!!!

OH MY GOSH. I didn’t read all 30 comments previous to my own. But holy cow, Alece, where is the ‘do’ photo??? I am the only priviledged one to have seen it via MMS? I feel so lucky. I thought by now, for SURE, you’d have posted a ‘real’ pick. You have no idea how many people around the world are waiting with bated breath…. sigh. I’ll just get out my cell phone and look again. Nope. It’s not working. we need a REAL photo… X

oh yeah, ok, high low stuff (whatever….) Um: Low: being up while Lily cried and had to learn to soothe herself to sleep between 3-4AM. High: hugging Lily today.

Darn it. I hate it when I make a mistake on a post that I can’t fix. It was supposed to say “Am I the only…” not “I am the only…” spelling mistakes don’t count because I’m a terrible speller… :(

yay for facebook

Ok i’m starting to suspect having her hair cut has sapped all her blogging strength - y’know? like Sampson?

Curse you, Delilah!

icanwaiticanwaiticanwait….

NO I CAN’T!!! :-((

love <B

Yah, enough of the suspense Alece

;)

****Taps toe on the ground……***
Waiting, and as you can see, not so patiently! :)

wow, folks! sorry for the suspense… definitely wasn’t intentional! it’s been a hectic coupleadays…

;) we understand. but i’m uber glad you’ve got those pics up.
