flotsam and jetsam

It’s Easter, and I’m mindful of the fact that there is always redemption. When my situation looks bleak, I need to remember that God can bring life when it looks as though there’s none to be found. That makes my heart smile.

Interesting bites from my week…

  • Last Easter I used my last egg-dying kits, so this was the first year in a very long time that I didn’t color eggs. I decided to color my flotsam and jetsam instead. Though it was egg-less, we had a great day. The Thrive family of staff and interns came over for a braai (barbecue) and we had a fun time together.
  • I was out of the office more than I was in it this week… leaving me with 219 emails still to answer! (219 emails = busy week ahead!)
  • We closed the ministry Thursday and Friday to celebrate Easter with a long weekend off from work. Our staff and interns seemed appreciative of the extra days to relax and recoup.
  • Some friends have been visiting with us this weekend. I’ve really enjoyed the down-time I’ve gotten to spend with them… it’s been good for my soul.

  • I wore an African dress to an Easter service at a local church. The mamas loved it! Joyce and I sort-of matched in our African Easter dresses, and we took pictures together for the first time ever!
Joyce & Alece
Joyce is so beautiful!
And she was so proud that we were wearing similar-looking seshoeshoe (suh-shway-shway) dresses.
Easter dresses
Take a good look at my long locks… I made my haircut appointment for Friday!

I have a feeling I know what the theme will be on “4minFri” this week. Yipee for you. :-)

Good to put a face with a name… Joyce is beautiful.

To keep the 400+ to stick around… hmm… follow your leadership instincts, it’s worked for you thus far.

Amen for redemption!

Yeah! So excited to see the new haircut. You and Joyce are both so beautiful in your dresses! :) And I love the colors, too. Happy Resurrection Day to you too!

hey, you. YOU make my heart smile… but i’m glad you made that comment on easter. it was definitely appreciated and well-received by yours truly.
love the dress… and joyce. two fantastic ladies in those pictures. :)
(my haircut appointment is tuesday.) teehee.

you look beautiful. thats cool that you went to a local church. are you getting the hillary swank cut or what? i know about 17 of those emails are from me :)

i love you!

and the remaining 202 are from me.

just kidding….
YAY that you had time off.
DOUBLE yay that you were away from the comp more than on it.
and TRIPLE yay that you actually were warm enough to wear an easter dress/sandals - yes. i checked for exposed toes. do you KNOW how jealous i am???

You two look beautiful. First time ever taking pictures? Wow.

There is always redemption.
Amen.

I liked reading the Harrismith tour.
I miss Harry.
I miss you.
(I love you).

ang — hmmm… i honestly have no ideas. if you get any brainwaves, lemme know!

anneth — thanks, friend!

roo — i wanna see, i wanna see! make sure you send me a picture, k? how was your “extraction”?!?!

yeller — i’m gonna bring a few different pictures, but that’s the one i’m leaning toward. FYI: the 219 is just my WORK email. i didn’t count my personal emails in there…

mandy — yeah, i’d say the difference in our easter pictures is remarkable! shame…

becca — harry misses you, too. so does lady. (oh, and me, too!)

Hmmmm… i fear my unlogged-in comment hath got lost? awaiting moderation maybe? :-)

love <B (’Bub’ - oui! ‘Bahb’ - nevairrrr! )

try, ‘gain baahhb!

So pretty! Wish you were coming this week, but understand. I guess Andrew will just have to wait to meet his South African Auntie another time. :) Hugs!

thanks, sarah! i wish i were coming, too… they’re on their way! headed out at 8 this morning!

I like the idea of coloring your post instead of eggs.

Nervous/excited about your imminent haircut?

Great pictures :) I learned a new easter egg trick in earth-friendly Iowa… soak red cabbage in water till the water turns purple… and then that liquid will supposedly “organically” color your eggs. I also heard you can make them extra pretty by putting on those round sticker/circles that we’d use in school to keep our notebook paper holes together before coloring the eggs for some extra style. Maybe next year!!

I hope the start of your solitude will be refreshing!!

Random BTW… I had an OB appointment today and needed blood drawn… 7 tries later they got it on the top of my hand… after blowing veins in my wrist and at the crease of my elbow…OUCH!!! I thought of you and tried “laugh” my way through it… but it sucked and I think I’m starting to develop a fear of needles now too… I,I,I (but all is well w/ Jr!!)

nat — i am more nervous than excited. i think.

amy — great tips. thanks! and man-oh-man about that needle action. eina! i’m glad “jr” is well! (that made me smile!)

(take 2)

lissen vary carfullee - i will say zis only wonce ( did you ever see tv series ‘Allo ‘Allo?)…

i LOVE long hair.

Good luck with YOUR choice of do.

You both look great in the soshoeshoe dresses but why do i have this overwhelming compulsion to play backgammon?? :-)

Oh yeah, your comments on my blog have been moderated now, please check my commment re the ‘log-in’ and your email still gets marked ‘May be Phishing spam’ at my place :-(

love <B

i’ve never seen ‘allo ‘allo. and i’ve never even played backgammon, so that joke was lost on me. (sorry, bub)

Next time you come to Perth - we’ll have a backgammon and Video night - ok? ;-)

love <B

sounds good.

by the way… do aussies have a… ummm… disdain for south africans? you know, the whole rugby/cricket rivalry thing?
